Starbucks saves my (frozen) soul

January 29, 2010

It’s the weekend! Are you excited?

Considering that the weekend forecast of 6″ has changed to a dusting, it’s still FAH-REEZING here! I shouldn’t complain after suffering through a Seoul winter — Bostonians and Chicagoans are surely laughing — but it was 25 degrees today and I just wanted to give up.

Starbucks to the rescue!

I know we should support local coffee shops. I know that we need to drink organic, sustainable, fair trade coffee. I know that café au lait can be made at home for a fraction of the cost.

At least I (usually) bring my own mug…?

Current Starbucks love: tall extra-hot soy misto with a shot of peppermint. (Is that the correct way to order? I’m never sure which order to put the specifications.) For someone who’s totally not high-maintenance, that drink always gives the barista pause.

What’s your favorite Starbucks (or other coffee shop) drink? Do you ever visit independently owned coffee shops? I used to be all about the latte but a misto is half the price with lower calories. Total win! And a definite yes to the independent coffee houses, but Starbucks definitely gets the convenience vote.

Washingtonians, what are you doing this weekend?

Is it weird that I’ve never heard of a misto… That sounds perfect–totally ordering it next time (with sugar-free vanilla, though). Thanks for the tip!

“Misto” is just the fancy name Starbucks gave café au lait. So while a latte is espresso and milk, misto is coffee and milk. Tastes the same to me, honestly; an expert coffee drinker can probably taste a difference. ;)

I’m obsessed with Starbucks! I don’t know…there’s just something about it (maybe bc they are conveniently all over NYC ) MY favorite drinks are a Lite Caramel Frap or Earl Grey Teat Misto (Black tea with warm skim milk! delicious and one of the cheapest drinks on their menu! haha)

I’m so addicted to Starbucks…unhealthy habit (for my bank account at least! ha ha). I like Skinny Caramel Lattes and Unsweetened Iced Tazo Green Tea…mmm :)

I don’t have any independently-owned coffee shops around here, but I would love to visit one! It would be a great place to meet up with friends and just chat.
I love Americanos from Starbucks. With hazelnut syrup!

I used to be a latte girl, but just discovered mistos do! Be still my heart. They’re the perfect combination!

I try to frequent our local coffee spots, but I also sometimes just crave a Starbucks– grande mocha, please!

I love soy lattes and soy chai tea at Starbucks. I totally support independently owned coffee shops when possible, but when I travel I’ve found Starbucks to be a consistent source of vegan lattes. Sometimes I just want some foamy soy milk with my caffeine!

I used to try to order soy when I lived in Korea and it was always a disaster, even though I knew the word (“duyu”) in Korean. The barista always just shook her heads and looked really sad and confused. :P
