Snowstravaganza
Snowpocalypse? Snowmageddon?
All I know is that the National Weather Service just upped its estimate to 20-30 inches of snow expected to fall on the DC area.
People here completely freak out at even the mention of snow. Before a single flake fell last night, area schools had already announced closings and early dismissals for today. And you know the federal government loves any chance to shut down — snow days are a great reason to take a government job!
It’s been falling heavily and steadily since around noon but so far, isn’t sticking to the road. Thankfully we were able to clean out my mom’s garage so I can park my car inside during this blizzard, unlike the last one where it took 1.5 hours to dig out! Although that was my only exercise for a few days…
That picture does not do justice to how deep the car was buried in there!
Our first blizzard this winter was beautiful — I even spent time outside taking pictures and enjoying how gorgeous the neighborhood looked under a thick quilt of white powder.
This one? Since my plans for tomorrow are a no-go (no Eastern Market, sadly
) I’m going to catch up on a few movies OnDemand, bake another loaf of this amazing vegan pumpkin bread and spend some quality bonding time with the shovel, I’m guessing. Hopefully the roads are clear enough Sunday to attend Lauren and Tad’s sure-to-be-fabulous Super Bowl party.
Not that I know or care about football — have to root for the Colts because they were my grandfathers favorite team — but who am I to pass up a chance to eat good food?!
Is it snowing where you live? Have any fun weekend plans?

Ahhh I dislike snow so much! There were three unexpected inches on the ground this morning. Not 30 but still a lot.
If it’s unexpected, it’s a lot! Be safe!
20 – 30 inches?!?!?! Wow, that’s crazzzzy. Definitely hit up the grocery store to stock up on nonperishables!
I haven’t even checked Erie’s forecast for the weekend yet. Now I’m a little nervous….
We have beans, bananas, soy milk and hummus — what more do you need?
I think DC and Baltimore are absorbing the worst of it but you’ll probably get a good bit in Erie. I know NY is only getting like 3 inches!
I wish we could get snow like that! It’d be amazing!!! According to the radar, it should be snowing, but alas, it’s not.
Sending some (mentally) your way. Did it work?
Holy snow! I can’t get over the photo!
No snow in Florida… I ran this morning in shorts and a tank top!
Shorts and a tank top? Oh myyyyy… jealous!
My coworker went to DC this weekend, and I told her to enjoy the warmer temps. Oops!
I can’t believe you guys are getting hit AGAIN. This is insane. It is only snowing lightly, here in Chicago.
Aw, your poor coworker! Thought she was escaping the freezing temps in Chicago and instead she’s snowbound here.
Yes! It’s supposed to snow here in NYC–not sure how much. Ugh. I’m ready for summer! haha Good think I’m going to Puerto Rico next week : )
xo

Haha, I love that map. I also love how DC closes down at any mention of snow. I haven’t heard if the storm is coming up towards me in Boston, I should probably look at that huh?
We are just getting rain. I’d rather have snow!
Wow, your car was BURIED! I hope that you won’t have to shovel as much snow this time. Stay warm and safe!
We’re getting maybe an inch (if that), but we still don’t have any special plans outdoors.
It’s so crazy that I live in Vermont and you guys have probably seen more snow, and definitely have more after this storm, than we have.
Completely crazzyyy!
I can’t believe how much snow we’re getting here in DC! I had plans to go to 2 Baltimore restaurants this weekend for Restaurant Week…not happening, obviously. Bummer! But as a state employee, I was happy with the day off today.
Enjoy the snowy weekend!
eek! that is a LOT of snow! hope you stay nice and warm inside
. i’m rooting for the colts too, but i have no reason at all. just picked em randomly haha
Your post brings back memories of last year when Seattle was snowed in during Christmas. It was fun the first week, but after that . . . Now here we are this year all the way into February and not even a bit of black ice on the roads. Crazy!
Big poker tournament tomorrow and probably wake up just in time Sunday to watch the football game. And to make you feel a little better but not much they are calling for snow flurries for the next week with moderate snow Wednesday. Yeah I know it didn’t help
Ack, you can keep your beautiful snow, Erin! I’ll just admire it from afar! Very, very far!
I’ll send some of this beautiful snow your way if you want…
i hope you stay warm!
