A simple snowy stir-fry
It was fun reading what everyone’s storm staples are. I’m glad so many people count on oats, nut butter and hummus. Good minds think alike!
The snowstravaganza is finally over but the digging out will take days. I spent the better part of this morning shoveling (yes, again) the driveway and front sidewalk. My arms and lower back are definitely feeling the burn!
We’re still semi snowbound here. The main roads and even most of the neighborhood has been plowed but it’s still extremely icy and the news is full of reports that highway on- and off-ramps are especially treacherous. This means… no Super Bowl party.
It’s times like this I especially want to live downtown. There are a tons of restaurants, coffee shops and a movie theatre easily walkable from home but no Dupont Circle snowball fight for me. Hopefully that changes in a few months!!
We have around 26 inches here — maybe a little more? — so it’s the biggest storm in DC in 80 years! In my backyard, the snow comes to the top of our fence. Going out for a walk later to enjoy the bright sunshine and blue skies, so look for snow pictures later. (And then, SnowNoMo.)
After making another homemade pizza for lunch yesterday (spinach, tomatoes, mushrooms, onion, rosemary and basil, with no cheese or sauce needed), I was craving veggies for dinner and planned to make a salad. But once my sister mentioned Chinese food — she was upset that the nearby Chinese place was closed in a BLIZZARD — a stir-fry sounded perfect.
This was really easy but tasty. I threw a red onion into a pan, then added mushrooms, asparagus and zucchini. A little hoisin sauce, some soy sauce and a splash of red wine vinegar, plus about a cup of leftover cooked brown rice.
A simple SCRUMPTIOUS snowy stir-fry!
What are your Super Bowl plans? And who are you rooting for?

YUM! This looks fantastic! I love making stir fry at home more than at any restaurant, usually!
It’s always great when you can make your own take-out! I have a lot of the ingredients on hand– I might stir-fry some up for us
I know, total bust on the superbowl plans! Not that I’m a huge sports fan, but I was most definitely looking forward to the food and company
stir frys are awesome! jenn at eating bender has started up “stir fry-days,” get it? stir frys cooked up on fridays?! stir saturday doesn’t have the same ring to it but i’m sure yours was delicious all the same!
YES another west wing fan! most bloggers have no idea what that is since it hasn’t been on tv in a while. i’m addicted, but so sad that i’m almost done with the series!!!
Oh yea, one of my best friends and I used to have WW viewing parties (aka just the two of us) in college haha.
Ahhhhh now I feel bad wishing all that snow on you. Sorry about the party. My bad
I saw pictures of that snowball fight online. It looked like so much fun!
I am not a football fan at all, but I guess I am rooting for the Saints because I have some friends from Louisiana.
I’m sorry about your party! My mom just sent me some pictures of home and the snow you guys got was crazy!
mmmm … i’m allergic to mushrooms but everything else in there looks so tasty! i’ll definitely have to give this one a try.
