About Me
I’m Erin, a 25-year-old writer and editor in Washington, DC, who loves to travel, eat and tell everyone all about it. Although I love my day job, my dream is to be the next Samantha Brown and combine my passions for food, travel, learning new things and meeting new people.
I caught the travel bug during college and have since visited two dozen countries, including a four-month study abroad program in London, two months backpacking through Australia and New Zealand, and a year teaching English in Seoul, South Korea.
I’ve been lucky to play with tigers in Thailand, hike Australia’s Blue Mountains, kayak to a glacier face in Alaska, get a wave from England’s Queen Elizabeth and explore a Mayan burial site in Belize.
Combined with my passion for travel is a love of all things food-related: eating, cooking, learning new recipes and reading interesting cookbooks. Luckily, food and travel go hand-in-hand: eating tapas on the beach in Barcelona, sweating through spicy kimchi in Seoul, enjoying a bushel of fresh Maryland crabs or drinking thick chocolat chaud at a Parisian café.
Now back in Washington, I love to share favorite foodie finds and travel tips to help other people enjoy my hometown. If you don’t live in DC, don’t worry — there are always new destinations on the horizon.
I’d love to hear from you about favorite travel hot spots, great recipes or anything else that’s on your mind. Follow me on Twitter and subscribe to the Travel Eat Repeat RSS feed. Thanks for reading!
The need to travel is a mysterious force. A desire to go runs through me equally with an intense desire to stay at home. An equal and opposite thermodynamic principle. When I travel, I think of home and what it means. At home I’m dreaming of catching trains at night in the gray light of Old Europe, or pushing open shutters to see Florence awaken. The balance just slightly tips in the direction of the airport.

Hey nice site! I found you through my friend Voracious and you caught my eye as you travel also! I am a flight attendant based in Saudi Arabia but guess where I am off to tomorrow??? DC!! Yay, any tips???
Thanks! I left a comment on your blog with more info but definitely check out this site with a list of good veggie/vegan restaurants: http://www.vegdc.com/restaurants.php
Hey girl!
Thanks for the comment today
I love your blog and am insanely jealous of all the traveling you’ve done. I love traveling myself and wish I could do more of it!
Another DC-er! I’m thinking we need to do a blogger meet-up here soon
That would be fun! When I’m back from Down Under (mid-April) we should definitely organize a DC blogger get-together.
Oh I caught a travel bug too – I completely understand your passion for going other places! I really like the travel quote you have here on this page. Good luck with following all your passions!
I feel the same way you do! In fact I was so depressed coming home after trips that I finally just moved to a tropical island so I could feel like I was on vacation all the time!
Aloha from Maui, A
FYI-I just got back from Australia and New Zealand myself. Fun times
That’s way more clever than I was epxeictng. Thanks!
Congrats on the name change Erin!
I love the name of this blog! It’s great!
Just stumbled upon your blog– I’m living in the same area and am also so so into traveling as much as possible.
Awesome! I’ve added you to my Google Reader.
Hi! I’m enjoying your blog. I plan to add travel photos to my blog as well but I definitely haven’t been to 20+ countries! I love your traveling spirit!
Traveling and food go hand-in-hand.
I live near DC!!! We should totally meet up when I am home from school. We just ‘met’and I’m already talking about meeting up
You’re just THAT cool!
I could use a 2 month trip to Australia….take me with!?
Absolutely! (on the meeting up and coming to Aus haha). I’m back in the area permanently after April.
Small world.
Hello! I just discovered your blog and I’m from the DC area as well
I currently live in Arlington.
Just from reading some of your older posts, I can tell you really like hummus. Have you ever tried Cava Mezze’s hummus? I’ve never eaten at one of their two restaurants but I bought their hummus at Whole Foods and it’s fantastic!!
Also, have you ever eaten at Chix on U & 11th? It’s one of my favorite healthy cheap places!!
I hope you’re enjoying the snow!
Is the hummus love that obvious?
Thanks for the recc for a good brand — I’ve heard of Cava Mezze but never tried it. My absolute favorite in the city is Lebanese Taverna. Their hummus is perfectly creamy.
I’ve never even HEARD of Chix! Another new discovery. Thank you! Hope you’re staying warm this weekend.
Erin, thanks so much for stopping by my blog! You write beautifully and I hope your traveling+eating dream job can become a reality for you! Looking forward to reading more!
Thank you!
Thank you for stopping over at my blog and leaving a comment! I love new readers!!
I’ve really enjoyed your blog so far. I look forward to reading more!
Great pictures of the DC snowstorm!
I like your new blog! And it makes me jealous a bit of your adventures. ^^ How come I’m not on your blogroll any more? Have fun in the snow!
Woah, where did you go?! When I updated the list recently, I must have accidentally taken you off. Sorry!
Hi! I just found your blog! I love finding new blogs, especially when they live in the same city
So glad to “meet” a fellow washingtonian
There are a bunch of us! I think a DC blogger meet-up is required this spring or summer.
Hi! Thanks for checking out my blog!
I can’t wait to read more about your traveling! How lucky you are!
Hi Eric, I am a fellow travel writer on examiner. I also found you on redgage. Hope you are having fun in Australia and New Zealand. I’ve never been there but I hope to go someday. I’ve been to 18 different countries and love to write about travel like you. So look forward to following along!

Hi!
I have recently stumbled across your blog and i really enjoy reading it! I would LOVE to be able to travel that much, as i’m sure everyone would : ) But i am curious…how can you afford it?If you graduated college and immediately started traveling…how do you have the money to do this?
I love traveling and have wanted to go to korea, thailand, australia, kenya (and a million more) for my whole life…but i just have no idea how i can ever afford to do it .
Gosh, the web is amazing, isn’t it? It connects people with such similar interests! Anyways, I’m like you: love to travel, love to eat, love to write about it all!
So good luck!
I was doing some research online when I stumbled across your site. I really like what you have done so it gave me some ideas that I wanted to share with you.
About what I do, I work for Veneto Panama, one of the most luxurious hotel and casino resorts in Panama. Since the material on your site complements what we do, I’d like to propose a partnership that is mutually beneficial for the both of us.
I have a team of writers available that can write articles, web pages, blogs, etc… We’re also open to freelance opportunities should you be interested. Let me know if you’re interested or have any questions.
Thanks,
You have such a neat blog. I love to read and write also. And I eat , of course. Travel would be amazing…not in my cards though!

Loves it and I can’t wait to keep reading
Thanks!
There’s just so much of the world to explore and definitely meeting people from each country makes you want to visit that specific place. I can identify.
Hi Erin,
I’ve been reading your blog for a little while now and I just wanted to say how I’ve enjoyed your writing & take on things! I love travelling (and eating too!) so the name pulled me in right away. I’m loving all the pumpkin you’ve been having lately and I can’t wait to hear about the pumpkin smoothies because that sounds really good! I’m also a Washingtonian (but the other Washington!).
You’re so sweet, Emily. Travel + food = epic fun.
Let me know if you have any great pumpkin recipes. It’s always great to discover new ones.
Just found your blog and totally in love. I’m a travel junkie too and desperately want to live abroad for a year or two after I graduate, possibly teaching english like you!
Thanks, you’re so nice! I definitely recommend teaching abroad and would be happy to give you any advice or answer questions.

I just found your blog and absolutely love it. I live in the DC area too and love to travel. I am from India and have been living in US for the past 4 years. I have traveled to China, Hong kong, Singapore, Malasysia, Thailand and SriLanka.
So glad I found your blog. Will definitely be subscribing!
Thanks for reading!
How was your experience teaching overseas? Was it a good way to make or save money? I have ALOT of student loan debt that pretty much prevents me from doing anything…
Hi, I’m so glad I found your blog!! I’m Korean, and studying here in the US =) I guess it’s been around 3 years since I came to the state.
Traveling and Coffee are my favorite activities too!!
Thanks for reading. Where in Korea are you from?
OMG, I didn’t know you wrote a question =)
I’m from Daegu, and I am studying here in a small college town in Tennessee.
Erin, where in Korea did you teach English??
I was in Seoul for a year (northern Seoul, near Bukhansan National Park). Such a fun experience and met lots of amazing people! I want to go back and visit my friends.
Yes, Seoul is such a fun place!! I’m so glad to see a fan of Seoul
DD
That’s way more clever than I was epxecting. Thanks!
I do the same! Traveling, eating, and repeating all of that.
I love your blog! I just moved to DC and love it already.
I just came across your site, and I love the idea! Where did you study abroad in London? I’m going over there in the fall to do the same!
I just saw your comment — sorry for not responding sooner.
I studied at University College London and lived near Marylebone station (close to Regents Park). Where will you be? You’ll have the best time. Studying abroad in London was the most fun experience and such an amazing way to experience the city. I miss London SO much — will you be blogging while you’re there?
That’s way more clever than I was extpecnig. Thanks!
Happy I found your blog.. Travelling and eating.. nothing better!
Thanks for reading! I agree — nothing better than travel and food.
Hi Erin!
I’ve often read your blog entries, but I suddenly realised that I had never commented on any of them before. I absolutely love your stories and your recipes, they’re great! They’re part of the reason why I’ve now decided to start my own blog. A while ago I was diagnosed with having a few food allergies, so I’ve decided to start blogging about that and share useful recipes which are suitable for people who eat gluten-free and dairy-free. I hope you don’t mind me using this comment to promote my blog. It’s: http://allergyfree-recipes.blogspot.com
I stumbled upon your blog and sounds like we have a a lot in common! Look forward to reading future posts…
P.S. I graduated in May and moved back home to the DC area- are there ever any local blogger meet ups? That would be fun!
Thanks for reading! We’ve definitely been trying to organize more DC blogger get-togethers so I’ll be sure you’re on the updated list and start getting invites.
Great, look forward to it… Thanks!
